We’re pretty certain that you’d be lying if said you hadn’t at least thought about calling in sick or feigning illness to make it to the World Cup matches.

We’re not encouraging you to do so, but we definitely think it’s worth sharing some of the weirdest excuses people have used to skip out of work… some of which would surely see you in front of the big screen before kick-off.

  1. You WON THE LOTTERY!! Oh wait, no… no you didn’t. Your mistake.
  2. You fell out of bed and broke your nose.
  3. Your partner has put every last pair of underwear in the washing machine.
  4. You forgot what day of the week it was.
  5. You forgot to come back from lunch.
  6. You have a bad case of the hiccups.
  7. You accidentally flushed your keys down the toilet
  8. A refrigerator fell on you … …?
  9. You’ve had a home hair dye mishap that would reflect poorly on your company’s pubic image
    And finally…
  10. You forgot you were getting married today

Granted, some of these would take a bit of maintenance to pull off and we don’t know how it ended for the folks that actually used them, but we can say that if you’ll go to any limits for your team – best of luck!!

2018 FIFA World Cup ‘Live It Up’ song vs history

By now almost everyone has heard, or at least knows this year’s official World Cup song ‘Live It Up’.

It’s an energetic, reggaeton track by Nicky Jam (Latin Grammy Award-winning, singer/songwriter) feat. Will Smith and Era Istrefi (23-year-old Albanian singer/songwriter), and produced by well-known DJ/producer Diplo.

So far, footy fans seem divided by the choice of song, with most hitting social media to express their confusion at how the song represents host country Russia – which to be honest, is a valid point.

With that in mind, it seems like a timely opportunity to look back at a couple of the banger anthems from the past 50 or so years that have in many ways, become as epic as the matches themselves.

1962, Chile – ‘El Rock del Mundial’ by The Ramblers
It would be an impressive effort if you’re old enough to have watched and remember the match. For the majority that probably aren’t, we missed one heck of a track.

1966, England – ‘World Cup Willy’ by Lonnie Donegan
The influential ‘King of Skiffle’ was a musical force to be reckoned with prior to The Beatles hitting the scene. Donegan laid down this gem for the 1966 World Cup.

1986, Mexico – ‘Hot Hot Hot’ by Arrow

Originally a dance party hit in 1982, you’d be hard pressed to find an individual that doesn’t know this song. It’s played at many sporting events across the world and became the unofficial football chant of the Montserrat national football team.

1998, France – ‘The Cup of Life’ by Ricky Martin
Arguably the most famous World Cup anthem is this chant-provoking number from Martin.

2010, South Africa – ‘Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)’ by Shakira
It’s hard to resist tearing up the dancefloor with this number from Shakira. We love it as much today as we did on match day.
